Challenge

The primary challenge revolved around bringing ship management software to the web and making it accessible anywhere, anytime; creating visibility, adding value to clients and ensuring it remained relevant in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. This included translating antiquated designs, streamlining workflows, and adapting the interface for responsiveness across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. The intricate balance between simplifying for new users while retaining complexity for seasoned power users posed a unique challenge.

Goal

The overarching goal was to redevelop the software, infusing it with a new life as a Progressive Web App. This involved redesigning user processes across 15 different modules, and introducing features like integrated instant messaging and advanced mapping and tracking. The aim was to enhance data visibility, condense information for quick consumption, and present a modernized layout that harmonized with the brand and provided both depth while facilitating easy onboarding of new users.

Result

The result was ShipMan, a transformative Progressive Web App that was far beyond initial project expectations. Dashboards provide at-a-glance information overviews, and streamlined drill-downs empower users with deep data access. The integration of new advanced features like communications and GIS elevated the software's capabilities. The modernized layout struck a balance, making it accessible for non-technical staff and external clients, while maintaining the necessary depth for the technical team to fulfill their roles efficiently. The project breathed new life into outdated software and positioned it as a cutting-edge tool for maritime management in the digital age.
